Howard Approved
Gourmet Dog Treat Recipe

This gourmet dog treat recipe is a variation of an easy dog biscuit recipe I found on the internet when I first started to bake dog treats.

What makes a dog treat recipe “gourmet”?

If you look up the word "gourmet" in the dictionary among the definitions you’ll find: “a connoisseur of fine food and drink” and also “involving high-quality or exotic ingredients and skilled preparation.”

This fits with my philosophy that a gourmet recipe is one that uses high quality ingredients that are healthy and nutritious for our dogs.

Howard Approved Gourmet Dog Treats

When I started giving the treats as gifts I wanted them to have a fun name. Inspired by our dog Howard’s love of all things food they earned the name Howard Approved Gourmet Dog Treats.

This is an easy dog biscuit recipe but is still a favorite of my dogs. The use of high quality dog treat ingredients makes this recipe truly gourmet. These treats have been given to many dogs over the years and I can honestly say I haven’t ever found a dog who didn’t love these treats.

Howard Approved Gourmet Dog Treats

1 ¾ Cups + ½ Cup Wheat Flour
1 Cup Rolled Oats
1/3 Cup Powdered Milk
1 Cup Water
1 Egg
½ Cup Peanut Butter

In a medium bowl combine 1 ¾ cups wheat flour and oats. Set Aside.

In a large bowl mix the powdered milk and water. Add egg and beat together. Add in peanut butter and continue beating until well combined. Add in the flour mixture and mix well. Slowly add remaining flour until a stiff dough suitable for rolling is formed. Roll to desired thickness and cut into shapes.

Bake at 350 for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Tip: After shutting off the oven I leave the dog biscuits in the oven for a couple hours to make sure they are completely dry and crunchy. Then they can be stored for a long time with out worrying about spoilage.
