Vegetarian Dog Treats

Honey Carrot Crunchies

These vegetarian dog treats are packed full of healthy ingredients including carrots that provide the antioxidant beta-carotene. The whole grains are great source of fiber, protein, Vitamin B, Vitamin E, magnesium and iron.

Honey Carrot Crunchies

½ Cup Whole Wheat
½ Cup Oat Flour
½ Cup Rice Flour
½ Cup Oats
2 Tablespoons Brewers Yeast
¼ Teaspoon Cinnamon

¼ Cup Water
1 Egg
2 Tablespoons Canola Oil
1 Tablespoon Honey
½ Cup Pureed Carrot
1 Cup Cooked Brown Rice

Preheat oven to 300 degrees.Combine dry ingredients and set aside. Using a food processor mix together water, egg, canola oil, and honey. Add the carrot and brown rice and mix until well combined. Transfer to a large bowl. Mix in the dry ingredients until a stiff dough formed.

Place on floured surface and roll to desired thickness. Cut into desired shapes. Bake at 300 degrees. If rolled to 3/8" baking time is 30 to 35 minutes or until a golden brown.

Tip: After shutting off the oven I leave the dog biscuits in the oven for a couple hours to make sure they are completely dry and crunchy. Then they can be stored for a long time with out worrying about spoilage.

Alternative: Easily adapt this to a wheat free dog treat recipe by eliminating the whole wheat flour and replacing with the oat and rice flours.
