Wheat Free Dog Treats

Wheat free dog treats are a healthy alternative for dogs that suffer from wheat allergies. The recipes below are made with delicious and nutritious ingredients such as rice flour, rye flour, pumpkin, peanut butter and molasses. Our own dogs love these treats.

Peanut Butter/Pumpkin Dog Treat Recipe

1/2 Cup Skim Milk
1/2 Cup Peanut Butter
1/2 Cup Pumpkin
1 Egg
1 Tablespoon Molasses
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
2 1/2 Cups Rice Flour

Instructions:

Add peanut butter and milk to large mixing bowl and whisk together. Add egg, pumpkin, molasses, and cinnamon andwhisk until well blended. Mix in flour 1/2 cup at a time until stiff dough forms.

Place on floured surface and roll to desired thickness. Cut into desired shapes. Bake at 300 degrees. If rolled to 3/8" baking time is 40 to 45minutes.

Oatmeal Molasses Dog Treats

1 1/2 Cups Rye Flour
1 1/2 Cups Rolled Oats
1/2 Non-fat dry milk
1 Egg
1 Tablespoon Canola Oil
3 Tablespoons Peanut Butter
2 Tablespoons Molasses

Mix dry ingredients together and set aside. In a separate bowl lighly beat egg and then add in canola oil, peanut butter, and molasses. Beat together until well combined.

Add dry ingredients to egg mixture and mix together until stiff dough forms. Dough may be sticky. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill in refrigerator at least 1/2 hour.

Roll chilled dough out to 3/8 inch and use a cookie cutter to cut out into desired shapes. Bake at 300 for 45 hour or until treat are lightly browned.

Alternative I like to form the dough into logs. Once chilled I slice it rather than roll it out. This is a great time saver.

Tip: After shutting off the oven I leave the dog biscuits in the oven for a couple hours to make sure they are completely dry and crunchy. Then they can be stored for a long time with out worrying about spoilage.
